CON WRAP-UP!!!

I know it’s been quiet here on the CBS! newsletter/blogspace but it’s been for good reason. Past couple weekends we’ve been really tied up with both the Long Beach Comic and Horror Con and ComiKaze. We hosted the Might and Fright Film Fest at LBCHC and for a first time film fest at the con I was really jazzed with the great projects we were able to show. My two favorite moments were the Spotlight on Jon Schnepp and the Filmmaker’s Forum. With the forum we had an AMAZING line-up of filmmakers ranging from Peter Cornwell (HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT) to Chris Siverston (I KNOW WHO KILLED ME). It basically became a roundtable discussion of films and filmmaking for over an hour. Totally awesome. And there was a guy dressed up as Spider-Man in the audience…and he never took off his mask.

I unfortunately was not able to make it to ComiKaze but Oscar Torres ran point there and told me it was amazing. Great turn-out and lots of kick-ass panels. Our booth had a lot of great traffic as well which is always nice. But I had a great weekend myself spending time with the fam and finally taking off to relax a bit 🙂

Anyway, really jazzed about next year with all the cons since this is pretty much it for 2011. We’ll have one more Comic Book Sunday! and then it’s hasta luego 2011 and bienvenue 2012!!

Have a great week…and for all you gamers out there…catch you on MW3 tomorrow!!

IT’S BEEN A WHILE!!! Now some UPDATES!!

My apologies for this blog being so inactive. Life has been a bit hectic across the board. We just had a baby, I started a new job, and the end of the year “bust your ass” time has really kicked in.

That all said I’m really jazzed that we’ve now reached over 1,000 members in the Comic Book Sunday! main group page (not to mention the almost 200 we have in Philadelphia) and we continue to grow every month. Our relationship with both Long Beach Comic and Horror Con and the new Comikaze Expo have us continuing to put out the brand of CBS! and to promote all the work with which we are associated.

2012 will also see us getting an anthology off the ground with Zenescope Entertainment who will be involved in publishing the collection!! I’m quite excited about this since I’ve wanted to build a compilation of our work for some time and doing an anthology is the best way to showcase CBS! and hopefully raise not only awareness but actually some funds for the coffers so we can continue to expand into doing projects such as this as well as events.

Also this month we’ll be having a COSTUME PARTY CBS! so make sure you get that costume ready!!! And since it’s Halloween I’ve gotten a real focus on horror films for our MIGHT AND FRIGHT FILM FESTIVAL at the Long Beach Comic and Horror Con. I’ll have a schedule announced very soon!!!!

Thanks again for all of the support and helping to make this group what it is today!!! It couldn’t have been done without each and every one of you that has been involved whether for 3 years or 3 days!!

SUSHI GIRL!!!

From our CBS! members comes a kick-ass picture called SUSHI GIRL!!! I just got this from member Neal Fischer so I wanted to share with you:

Assembly Line & Level Up producitons brought their dark crime thriller “sushi girl” & legendary cast led by mark hamill, noah hathaway, tony todd, james duval & andy Mackenzie to Comic-con 2011

If you missed the world premiere of the “Sushi Girl” trailer at Comic-Con last Friday, don’t despair. We have some incredible first look clips that you can share with your viewers. So please take a lesson in “chopsticks” below and your new favorite thieves will be back soon to show you the true art of “the heist.”

Trailer: http://sushigirlmovie.com/trailer.html

Chop Sticks Clip:  http://sushigirlmovie.com/chopsticks.html

Revenge is a dish best served cold. “Sushi Girl,” truly a diabolical treat, stars a virtual who’s-who of cult icons in filmmaker Kern Saxton’s directorial feature film debut: Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Noah Hathaway (The NeverEnding Story), Tony Todd (Candyman), Andy Mackenzie (Shoot ‘Em Up), James Duval (Donnie Darko), David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight), Michael Biehn (The Terminator), Danny Trejo (Machete), Sonny Chiba (Kill Bill Vol. 1), Cortney Palm (Superbad), Ted Stryker (KROQ) and Jeff Fahey (Grindhouse).

“Sushi Girl” follows Fish (Hathaway) on his first night of freedom after having spent the last six years in jail keeping his mouth shut not only about the robbery he helped commit, but about his co-conspirators as well. The four men he protected celebrate his freedom with a lavish dinner, comprised of an array of sushi—served off the naked body of a beautiful young woman. The sushi girl appears catatonic, trained to ignore everything in the room—even as things become more dangerous.

GREAT COMIC CON!!!

It was a great comic con with tons of CBS! news updates and even awards!! First off, a HUGE congrats to member Marv Wolfman for winning the Eisner for the Hall of Fame.  Awesome.

Personally I had a blast, though completely exhausted when I finally got home.  The one thing that’s really become tough over the years is the party-hopping since the lines are often so long even when you’re on the list…so I learned this year to get there early and not leave until the bar closed 🙂  All in all it was a great con and if there are any announcements or reports anyone has that they’d like put up here let me know and I’ll make posts of individual endeavors etc.

Now to get ready for the Long Beach Comic and Horror Con!!! And boy do we have some cool things planned for that….Might and Fright Film Festival is about to get some major announcements as we shift it into a new but even more exciting direction…so stay tuned!!!!

SDCC UPDATE!!! CBS! MEMBER MONSTERVERSE

PRESS RELEASE – BELA LUGOSI’S TALES FROM THE GRAVE #3 COVER!

(Los Angeles) Monday, July 11, 2011

MONSTERVERSE ENTERTAINMENT releases the stunning cover to the upcoming THIRD ISSUE OF BELA LUGOSI’S TALES FROM THE GRAVE by the amazing DAVID HARTMAN.
David Hartman is one of the most in-demand horror artists working in comics and graphic design today.

MONSTERVERSE is thrilled to bring his talents to BELA LUGOSI’S TALES FROM THE GRAVE #3. This issue is going to be another terrifying treat for horror fans and features an especially disturbing story by STEVE NILES (30 DAYS OF NIGHT) and illustrated by MONSTERVERSE publisher KERRY GAMMILL (SUPERMAN). It is currently being offered for order to shops from DIAMOND DISTRIBUTION with this code:

JUL111157 BELA LUGOSI TALES FROM GRAVE #3

The book will be coming out at Halloween along with the first book of FLESH AND BLOOD, MONSTERVERSE‘s new series of graphic novels as written by Robert Tinnell and illustrated by Neil D. Vokes.

FLESH AND BLOOD Volume One begins with the bloody destruction of the legendary vampire, the darkly seductive Carmilla. Her death ignites an epic firestorm of events that draws the greatest icons of Gothic horror into battle across the lush backdrop of 19th century Europe. At the center of this ghastly conflict Baron Victor Frankenstein is forced to merge his diabolical scientific prowess with the black arts of a terrifying supernatural world. This unholy war between light and darkness will not be measured in months or years but across centuries of horror and devastation until one force reigns triumphant. Vampires, werewolves and scientific monsters are unleashed like nothing seen before in film, comics or literature.

As Hammer and other studios enlarged upon the Universal horror canon bringing a sexier maturity to the world’s most terrifying monsters along with a more realistic savagery to the violent action, FLESH AND BLOOD brings a modern update to these classic creatures. FLESH AND BLOOD is now available to pre-order at comic shops via Diamond Distribution in its JULY PREVIEWS magazine (Page 298 next to the Frank Miller’s HOLY TERROR ad) with the following code:

JUL111158 FLESH AND BLOOD GN VOL 01

We’ll be announcing a special launch party for both books to be held at the American Cinematheque in the fall along with screening a surprise selection of kindred horror films in its Egyptian theater.

We will be offering previews of the work when Monsterverse takes the stage with a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. MONSTERVERSE HORROR COMICS ATE MY BRAIN. Friday. 5-6. Room 9. With Bela Lugosi, Jr., too!

From the SDCC official site: There is no escaping Bela Lugosi’s Tales from the Grave horror anthology comic and upcoming graphic novel series, Flesh And Blood. Joining Monsterverse’s Kerry Gammill (Superman) and Sam F. Park (The Halfway House) are Bela Lugosi Jr., screenwriter Peter Briggs (Hellboy), Robert Tinnell (Flesh And Blood), James Farr (Xombie), Chris Moreno (World War Hulk), Mark L. Miller (Ain’t It Cool News), Dan Brereton (The Nocturnals), James Groman (The Hobbit), and Mike Dubisch (Aliens vs. Predator). Expect a slideshow and discussion of Monsterverse’s horror projects, along with a Q&A session. SDCC 2011 Friday 5:00-6:00 Room 9

Issue #2 of BELA LUGOSI’S TALES FROM THE GRAVE comes out soon with a shocking cover by make-up legend and seven time Academy Award winner Rick Baker. Recently the LA TIMES HERO COMPLEX ran a special story on the cover and issue.

MONSTERVERSE IS DIGITAL! Available via iTunes App Store from iVerse Media. Download the “COMICS +” app to find the BELA LUGOSI’S TALES FROM THE GRAVE #1 horror anthology comic book and download it to your iPad, iPod or iPhone today!

BELA LUGOSI’S TALES FROM THE GRAVE #1 digital comic has exclusive work by top artist JOHN CASSADAY of ASTONISHING X-MEN and PLANETARY fame. It’s also a DOUBLE-SIZED comic book created with no ads. That means it has 52 pages of horror anthology stories and material from front cover to back. And the back cover is of the lovely vampire Nosferina by Warner animation artist legend, BRUCE TIMM!

MONSTERVERSE ENTERTAINMENT is a transmedia company publishing comic books and developing horror projects in all mediums.

Kerry Gammill is publisher and editor of MONSTERVERSE and a noted comic book and film design artist.

Producer/screenwriter Sam F. Park is the west coast editor and a writer/designer on Monsterverse projects.

SAN DIEGO COMIC CON UPDATE!!! CBS! MEMBER ARCANA’S SCHEDULE

Here’s what’s cooking with our friends over at ARCANA STUDIOS for SDCC this year!!!

PRESS RELEASE: Broken Saints to Becoming & Updated Signing Schedule July 14, 2011
Broken Saints to Becoming&

Updated Signing Schedule

Arcana Comics is Debuting Becoming at SDCC, written by acclaimed creator Brooke Burgess (BROKEN SAINTS)!
We’re days away from San Diego Comic Con, and the news keeps on coming!
Brook Burgess, creator of the animated epic, Broken Saints, is releasing his debut Arcana comic at San Diego Comic Con, starting on Wednesday, July 20th, where he will appear throughout the week alongside the artist of Becoming, Dane Cypel. Please refer to the updated signing schedule below for the latest signings.
Of his decision to work with Arcana, Brooke explains, “I was approached by Sean back in 2004, after finishing the original Flash motion comic Broken Saints and producing the 4-disc DVD upgrade of the series with Telefilm Canada.  I had no idea there was such a prolific independent comic publisher in Canada, and was impressed with his savvy in developing original IP and packaging concepts for TV, film, and other media.”
At SDCC 2005, Brooke signed a deal with “20th Century Fox to distribute Broken Saints worldwide, which was an amazing opportunity.  It was launched the following year in San Diego, and Sean was one of the first to swing by and offer congratulations and support!  Arcana was growing by leaps and bounds by then, and I knew he had several feature films in development.  I wanted to start writing a new story asap, but some other motion comic projects – Will Smith’s I Am Legend, and Guillermo Del Toro’s Hellboy – owned my life for the next year+.”
Since that time, Brooke has written two films, which are in development, and consulted with various transmedia campaigns. Early in 2010, he pitched BECOMING, “a psychological thriller for mature readers,” to Sean. The story was “based on a short film script a friend of mine and I had concocted – an almost ‘operatic’ battle of wills between an aging psychology professor and a cocky graduate student – and I was really intrigued by its graphic novel potential.   I’ve always been drawn to stories where the protagonist is on a quest for ‘knowledge’, and Becoming asks a crucial question:  is there such a thing as ‘ultimate knowledge’…and what’s the price for it?  The story’s witty, macabre, intense, philosophical, very personal…and even a little funny, in an absurd way.”
Arcana is excited to be working with the talented creator and to have him appearing at SDCC.
